What is CQI-9? – A review of the 4th edition

The current CQI-9 4th edition has been valid since June 2017 and will remain in force until the official introduction of the new edition. It defines the requirements for process audits in heat treatment (e.g. hardening, tempering, nitriding, brazing). The aim is to ensure process capability, product quality and system reliability on a permanent basis. Companies certified according to IATF 16949 must conduct CQI-compliant audits annually.

The HTSA audit template provided by AIAG and the clearly defined system and process audit questions enable a structured and practical assessment that is recognised throughout the industry.

Why you should prepare now

The upcoming 5th edition does not just mean editorial changes – it reflects the increased requirements for digital traceability, extended process data analysis and global quality requirements. Those who make the transition early will secure competitive advantages and remain audit-ready.
